"Each suave gesture and every detail reveals evidence of great craftsmanship and the results were expressed in a standing ovation across the house." - 3 WEEKS AUGUST 2007

"A whole world is mimed and voiced, from the whip of an angling rod to the fuzzle of a cappuccino dispenser, and the result is not naturalism, but a dainty, homosocial reality where everything is mechanically just so. Delightfully, this is at odds with the play’s premise – that straight, uncomplicated, masculinity will sort itself out, given space and time and enough rounds of golf – and the result is a show of great physical delicacy.”

"If men of a certain age can drag themselves away from the office, and get off their pedestal of pride, this might go down a therapeutic treat in the West End." - THE TELEGRAPH, 8th AUGUST 2007

"Slickly produced, the wide appeal of the show should be tempered by knowledge that those for whom overwork, ulcers and broken marriages are not professional hazards will be laughing at the foolishness of it is characters, not with them." - THE STAGE, 13th AUGUST 2007

THE WEST AUSTRALIAN

"...utterly brilliant, mountains of humour, incredibly funny ...you simply cannot miss one of the funniest shows in a long time. Certified Male is comedy at its very best."
SCENE MAGAZINE

"Since it premiered at the Athenaeum in 1999, CERTIFIED MALE has developed into a classy, commercial blockbuster ready to take-on Broadway and the West End.

Inspired by author Steve Biddulph's bestselling book Manhood, the play follows three stressed executives – Alex (Glynn Nicholas), Mc Bride (Peter Rowsthorn) and Howard (Berynn Schwerdt) – who are ordered by company boss Jarrad (Frank Holden) to join him for a weekend at a tropical resort.

The execs have barely climbed into their Hawaiian shirts when it dawns on them that this isn't any ordinary holiday. It seems Jarrad is about to let one of them go, but hasn't decided who.

The execs suck up to him, then they rebel against him. all the while the boss remains an impartial observer.

Nicholas and collaborator Scott Rankin bring the overworked under-loved, misunderstood modern man into focus with a mixture of pointed observation and subtext.

Nicholas, Rowsthorn, Holden and Schwerdt all serve up performances so full of humour and pathos, it's hard to know which of them to watch.

CERTIFIED MALE is the ideal education tool for women to understand men and men to understand themselves."
